This week's top hip hop honey

For those who aren't familiar with him he is the first artist out of North Carolina signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label. The newest breed of emcees that is also a producer but you can make the argument that there is room for growth in both areas, especially producing beats! His 3rd official mixtape release (4th if you count "the Blow Up"). If you want an idea of J. Cole's style look no further than the introduction track "Too Deep for the Intro" where he uses a Erykah Badu sample to compliment his storyline tales about relationship abuse and his journey to emceeing. His content is truly a breathe of fresh air as you can sense his level of self-awareness. Many of his lyrics are easy to relate to especially if you grew up in the golden age of rap (early to mid 90's). Much of his content consist of introspective rhymes on females/relationships, the plight of the young black male, and his journey to make it in the music industry. His biggest influence or favorite rapper is 2pac so you can definitely hear some of his passion in his delivery along with likes of a young Nas or Common......
